Urgent Need for Hot Lunch Volunteers – can you volunteer 3 hours  for at least one day a week? The hot lunch program if currently feeding 30+ individuals at Fountains of Living Waters Church, 518 E. 2nd Street, Casa Grande. Volunteers are needed for the hours of 9:30am to 12:30pm Monday through Saturday. If you can help please call Terri Durham at 520-836-6335.

Seeds of Hope has many volunteer opportunities, both in the summer and winter. They need willing persons to help out with programs such as: Youth, Adult Education, Hot Lunch, and Stanfield Medical Clinic. Transportation services – The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center, 405 E. Sixth St., offers a transportation service within the city of Casa Grande for seniors ages 60 and older for a suggested donation of $3 one way. The service is also available to disabled adults ages 18 and older and seniors ages 50 to 59 for a $3 fee. Transportation can be used for medical visits, shopping trips and also to visit the senior center. Lunch is offered Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Give The Gift Of Life – the Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood to help ensure supply is available to meet needs. To schedule an appointment to donate, use the organization’s free blood donor app, visit its website, redcrossblood. org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). United Blood Services is also having ares blood drives. To make an appointment to donate please  go online to the United Blood Services website. Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce wait times.

 

Mondays

A Diabetes Workshop is scheduled the first and second Mondays of each month from 3 to 5pm at Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road. Classes are taught by a certified diabetes educator, The cost is $10 for 2 classes. Call 381-0395 or email Erika.Reyes@slfhc.org for more info.

Free Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes – Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30am – 1:30 pm at Vista Grande Library, No registration required, class is free.

Caregiver support by a trained support team offers respite and encouragement in the clubhouse at Fiesta Grande RV Resort at the La Casa Building, Room A, 1511 E. Florence Blvd. every Monday from 1:00 to 2:00pm. All caregivers are welcome. For more info call  Merridy at 520-836-8901.

 Tuesdays

The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center hosts a coffee hour every Tuesday at 9:00am with members enjoying doughnuts, coffee and conversation.

The Downtown Farmer’s market is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Florence and Fourth  Streets. Vendor offerings include Indian and homemade jewelry, $5 jewelry, bread-and-butter pickles, zucchini bread, smoked meat, kettle corn and dog treats. Vendor  spots are $5. TOPS – Take Pounds Off Sensibly is a nonprofit, low cost program that offers support and encouragement along with free website access.  Everyone is invited to a free, no-obligation meeting Tuesdays at (change of location)  the United Methodist Church, 1515 N. Grief Share support group offers caring support to help people through the grieving process and one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is held on Tuesdays from 1 to 3pm at Desert Sky Baptist Church, 891 W. Korsten Road.  The group runs on a 13-week cycle with a 4 week break in between sessions and is non-denominational and features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. National Alliance on Mental Illness Connections meets the first and third Tuesdays at 5pm at the Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road, in the Board Room. The group provides support for people with mental illness and a safe place to express themselves and receive support without being judged, a critical part of recovery and wellness.

 Wednesdays

Mad About Jesus Children’s Ministry – Each week the MAD ABOUT JESUS summer kids program will explore a science experiment based around scripture teaching. Each lesson has been designed to both fascinate the audience with the science while still maintaining a strong biblical message.  There will be games, worship and lots of fun and fellowship for the kids as well. This program is designed for children already in Kindergarten through 5th grades.  A Preschool class is also available. Our Awana program will begin again in the fall.

Seeds of Hope will host a Grandparents / Kinship “potluck” advocacy group meeting every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The meeting will be held at the Mondo Anaya Community center, 1487 N. Crane Street from 6:15 to 7:30pm. Adults and children are all invited. We provide the main course – you bring a side dish to share. For more information call the Seed of Hope office at 520-836-6335.

Fridays

Concert In the Park – Friday nights from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The concerts are held at Peart Park, located at 350 E. 6th Street. All concerts are free to attend and patrons are encouraged to being chairs and blankets to the park. For more information please call 520-421-8677, Ext. 4523.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered program that helps individuals who struggle with any type of hurt, habit or hang-up. They meet every Friday at 6:00pm at the Casa Grande Assembly of God Church, 501 E. Kortsen Road. The goal of Celebrate Recovery  is to encourage each other as we remove the barriers that keep us from growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether it is anger, addictions, depression, anxiety etc.… Celebrate Recovery can be a place to grow using the 12 step model and the actual Words of God. Coolidge – Spirit of Joy United Methodist Church sponsors a swap meet at North Attaway Road and State Route 287 every third Saturday of each month. Spaces for vendors are available. Call 520-217-9288 or 520-723-3296 for more information and an application.

Valley Humane Society has pet adoptions every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm at PetSmart, 986 N. Mission Parkway.

Overeaters Anonymous meets at 8am Saturdays in Room 4 of Building D of First Presbyterian Church, 702 E. Cottonwood Lane. Call Carolyn 705-7038 for more info.

Blood pressure and blood sugar checks are given at Seeds of Hope’s Mondo Anaya Community Center, 1487 N. Crane St., inside Albert Cruz Park, from 8:30am to 10:30am the second Saturday of each month. For more info call Seeds of Hope at 836-6335 Monday through Friday from 8am to noon.

The Casa Grande chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) meets the second Saturday of the month at 7:30am at Golden Corral. This non-denominational ministry joins Christian motorcycle enthusiasts to encourage one another’s faith, represent Christ to secular riders, participate in toy runs and raise funds to support international ministries such as The Jesus Film Project. The Florence Artisan market is open every Saturday from 7:30am to 1pm and is  located on Main Street in downtown Old Florence.

Herbalicious of Arizona will offer fresh produce every fourth Saturday (except in December) in partnership with Borderland Food Banks. The program offers 60 pounds of fresh produce for a $10 donation. POWWOW distribution will be on every fourth Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at 423 North Florence Street. Vacation Bible School – Dust off your telescopes and discover the incredible mysteries of the final frontier. Join us as we search for the visible to discover the invisible at Galactic Starveyors. Kids will make crafts, play fun games, enjoy tasty snacks, sing cool songs, and learn about missions, all while discovering that the God who created everything there is – the visible and the invisible – wants a relationship with them. Saturday, June 24th, is a community night, open to all ages – adults and kids – to join us in looking at stars through telescopes. Come and discover the God who created it all! A telescope valued at $100 will be given away. The VBS is free for kids who have completed Kindergarten through 6th grade. Vacation Bible School – Calvary Chapel Casa Grande is holding their evening VBS June 26th-30th, from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The theme “For God So Loved  . . .” will include bible lessons, games, snacks, missions, music, science, sword drills, puppet shows, memory verses and tons of fun!
