Seeds of Hope has many volunteer opportunities, both in the summer and winter. They need willing persons to help out with programs such as: Youth, Adult Education, Hot Lunch, and Stanfield Medical Clinic. Contact them at 520-836-6335 Monday through Thursday from 8am to noon or go to their website at www.seedsofhopeaz.com.

Transportation services – The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center, 405 E. Sixth St., offers a transportation service within the city of Casa Grande for seniors ages 60 and older for a suggested donation of $3 one way. The service is also available to disabled adults ages 18 and older and seniors ages 50 to 59 for a $3 fee. Transportation can be used for medical visits, shopping trips and also to visit the senior center. Lunch is offered Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until noon. To schedule an appointment to donate, use the organization’s free blood donor app, visit its website, redcrossblood. org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). United Blood Services is also having ares blood drives. To make an appointment to donate please  go online to the United Blood Services website. Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce wait times.

 

Mondays

A Diabetes Workshop is scheduled the first and second Mondays of each month from 3 to 5pm at Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road. Classes are taught by a certified diabetes educator, The cost is $10 for 2 classes. Call 381-0395 or email Erika.Reyes@slfhc.org for more info.

Free Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes – Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30am – 1:30 pm at Vista Grande Library, No registration required, class is free.

A caregiver support group meets on a weekly basis to provide encouragement and support in a confidential and emotionally safe environment. The group is led by a trained support team and meets at Fiesta Grande RV Resort in the LaCasa Building, Room A, 1511 E. Florence Blvd. every Monday from 1:00 to 2:00pm. All caregivers are welcome. Grandparents raising grandchildren? A Seeds of Hope support group meets the fourth Monday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00am at the Mondo Anaya community Center, 1487 N. Crane St., Casa Grande.  Tuesdays

The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center hosts a coffee hour every Tuesday at 9:00am with members enjoying doughnuts, coffee and conversation.

TOPS – Take Pounds Off Sensibly is a nonprofit, low cost program that offers support and encouragement along with free website access.  Everyone is invited to a free, no-obligation meeting Tuesdays at (change of location)  the United Methodist Church, 1515 N. Grief Share support group offers caring support to help people through the grieving process and one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is held on Tuesdays from 1 to 3pm at Desert Sky Baptist Church, 891 W. Korsten Road.  The group runs on a 13-week cycle with a 4 week break in between sessions and is non-denominational and features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. A Diabetes Support Group meets from 7 to 8pm the third Tuesday of the month in the Discovery Room of Banner Casa Grande Medical Center’s Education Center, 1800 E. Florence Blvd. Open to patients, family members, friends, care providers and medical professionals. For more info call 381-6416.

National Alliance on Mental Illness Connections meets the first and third Tuesdays at 5pm at the Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road, in the Board Room. The group provides support for people with mental illness and a safe place to express themselves and receive support without being judged, a critical part of recovery and wellness.

 Wednesdays

Seeds of Hope will host a Grandparents / Kinship “potluck” advocacy group meeting every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The meeting will be held at the Mondo Anaya Community center, 1487 N. Crane Street from 6:15 to 7:30pm. Adults and children are all invited. We provide the main course – you bring a side dish to share. For more information call the Seed of Hope office at 520-836-6335.

Thursdays

Free ESL classes – First Baptist Church, 13955 S. Sunland Gin Road, Arizona City, is offering free English as a second language classes, including reading, conversation, writing and pronunciation, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. every Thursday. For more information, contact Gary Oaks at 520-300-0031.

A women’s and breast cancer support group meets from 5:30 to 6:30pm the third Thursday  of the month at the Cancer Support Center, 1890 E. Florence Blvd., Suite 3. For additional information call Karen at 520-426-7641.

Free Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes – Thursdays from 9:30am – 11:00 am at Casa Grande Main Library to practice pronunciation.

A free class for Spanish speakers to learn to read and write English is held from 7:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursdays through Sept. 13 at 1555 N.  Colorado St. For more information, call 480- 371-6690 or 480-776-4428.

Thunderous Thursdays is a social club for developmentally/physically disabled teens and adults that meets on the second Thursday of the month. All activities are free of charge and begin at 5 p.m. at Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center. For more information, call 421-8677, ext. 4523.

Fridays

Celebrate Recovery meetings – Celebrate Recovery is a faith-based recovery program for all people who struggle with any hurt, habit or  hang-up. All people and all issues including anxiety, anger, grief, loss, emotional, physical or sexual abuse, sexual addiction, chemical  dependency, same sex attraction, self-injury, co-dependence, divorce, food addiction, pornography and many more are welcome. It meets every Friday night at 501 E. Kortsen Road at Casa Grande Assembly of God. A complimentary dinner is served at 6:00 pm and the program  starts at 6:45 pm. For more information, call 520-705-3250 or 540-226-8976.

 Weekends

Coolidge – Spirit of Joy United Methodist Church sponsors a swap meet at North Attaway Road and State Route 287 every third Saturday of each month. Spaces for vendors are available. Call 520-217-9288 or 520-723-3296 for more information and an application.

Valley Humane Society has pet adoptions every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm at PetSmart, 986 N. Mission Parkway.

Overeaters Anonymous meets at 8am Saturdays in Room 4 of Building D of First Presbyterian Church, 702 E. Cottonwood Lane. Call Carolyn 705-7038 for more info.

Blood pressure and blood sugar checks are given at Seeds of Hope’s Mondo Anaya Community Center, 1487 N. Crane St., inside Albert Cruz Park, from 8:30am to 10:30am the second Saturday of each month. For more info call Seeds of Hope at 836-6335 Monday through Friday from 8am to noon.

The Casa Grande chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) meets the second Saturday of the month at 7:30am at Golden Corral. This non-denominational ministry joins Christian motorcycle enthusiasts to encourage one another’s faith, represent Christ to secular riders, participate in toy runs and raise funds to support international ministries such as The Jesus Film Project. The Florence Artisan market is open every Saturday from 7:30am to 1pm and is  located on Main Street in downtown Old Florence.

Herbalicious of Arizona will offer fresh produce every fourth Saturday (except in December) in partnership with Borderland Food Banks. The program offers 60 pounds of fresh produce for a $10 donation. POWWOW distribution will be on every fourth Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at 423 North Florence Street. Tues. & Wed., January 22-23

Free mental health first-aid training – FLORENCE — The Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens offers a free two-day training, mental health first aid, as part of a national effort to increase mental health literacy. The workshops are set for Tuesday, Jan. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 23, from noon to 5 p.m. at Florence Community Center, 778 N. Main St. To reserve a seat, call 1-800-293-9393. The event is open to the public. There will be no sales. A free lunch will be served both days and a textbook will be provided.

Friday, January 25

A breakfast to support the Home Delivered Meals Program will be served on Friday, Jan. 25, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center. The cost for the breakfast is $5 per plate. All proceeds go toward the Home Delivered Meals Program. The menu consists of French toast, scrambled eggs, hash brown patty and sausage. Dine-in or carry-out are available. Businesses or organizations interested in placing an order for pickup may contact the center at 520-421-8760 to arrange to have your order ready at a requested pickup time.

Saturday, January 26

Genealogy workshop set – The Pinal County Genealogists host their 16th annual workshop on Saturday, Jan. 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1555 N. Colorado St. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the first session starts at 9. The registration fee is $20 for those who are registered by Jan. 12. The registration fee includes lunch and admission into the workshop. Fee is $25 after Jan. 12 and lunch is not guaranteed. Registration forms and syllabus are available at  www.pinalctyazgen.com.
