Seeds of Hope has many volunteer opportunities, both in the summer and winter. They need willing persons to help out with programs such as: Youth, Adult Education, Hot Lunch, and Stanfield Medical Clinic. Contact them at 520-836-6335 Monday through Thursday from 8am to noon or go to their website at www.seedsofhopeaz.com.

Transportation services – The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center, 405 E. Sixth St., offers a transportation service within the city of Casa Grande for seniors ages 60 and older for a suggested donation of $3 one way. The service is also available to disabled adults ages 18 and older and seniors ages 50 to 59 for a $3 fee. Transportation can be used for medical visits, shopping trips and also to visit the senior center. Lunch is offered Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Give The Gift Of Life – the Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood to help ensure supply is available to meet needs. To schedule an appointment to donate, use the organization’s free blood donor app, visit its website, redcrossblood. org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). United Blood Services is also having ares blood drives. To make an appointment to donate please  go online to the United Blood Services website. Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce wait times.

 

Mondays

A Diabetes Workshop is scheduled the first and second Mondays of each month from 3 to 5pm at Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road. Classes are taught by a certified diabetes educator, The cost is $10 for 2 classes. Call 381-0395 or email Erika.Reyes@slfhc.org for more info.

Free Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes – Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:30am – 1:30 pm at Vista Grande Library, No registration required, class is free.

Caregiver support by a trained support team offers respite and encouragement in the clubhouse at Fiesta Grande RV Resort at the La Casa Building, Room A, 1511 E. Florence Blvd. every Monday from 1:00 to 2:00pm. All caregivers are welcome. For more info call  Merridy at 520-836-8901.

Grandparents raising grandchildren? A Seeds of Hope support group meets the fourth Monday of each month from 9:30 to 11:00am at the Mondo Anaya community Center, 1487 N. Crane St., Casa Grande.  Tuesdays

The Dorothy Powell Senior Adult Center hosts a coffee hour every Tuesday at 9:00am with members enjoying doughnuts, coffee and conversation.

The Downtown Farmer’s market is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Florence and Fourth  Streets. Vendor offerings include Indian and homemade jewelry, $5 jewelry, bread-and-butter pickles, zucchini bread, smoked meat, kettle corn and dog treats. Vendor  spots are $5. TOPS – Take Pounds Off Sensibly is a nonprofit, low cost program that offers support and encouragement along with free website access.  Everyone is invited to a free, no-obligation meeting Tuesdays at (change of location)  the United Methodist Church, 1515 N. Grief Share support group offers caring support to help people through the grieving process and one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is held on Tuesdays from 1 to 3pm at Desert Sky Baptist Church, 891 W. Korsten Road.  The group runs on a 13-week cycle with a 4 week break in between sessions and is non-denominational and features biblical teaching on grief and recovery topics. A Diabetes Support Group meets from 7 to 8pm the third Tuesday of the month in the Discovery Room of Banner Casa Grande Medical Center’s Education Center, 1800 E. Florence Blvd. Open to patients, family members, friends, care providers and medical professionals. For more info call 381-6416.

National Alliance on Mental Illness Connections meets the first and third Tuesdays at 5pm at the Sun Life Family Health Center, 865 N. Arizola Road, in the Board Room. The group provides support for people with mental illness and a safe place to express themselves and receive support without being judged, a critical part of recovery and wellness.

 Wednesdays

Awana Children’s Ministry – every Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm at Calvary Chapel of Casa Grande, 962 W. Gila Bend Highway. Awana is a fun-filled, bible-based program thart focuses on scripture memorization, games and club disciplines. This club provides a welcoming and supportive environment where your child will grow in faith, confidence and self-discipline. You can register your child, ages 3 years old through 5th grade, by going online to calvarycg.org or call the church at 520-836-9676. There is a $20 suggeted annual donation per child or $50 maximum per family.

Seeds of Hope will host a Grandparents / Kinship “potluck” advocacy group meeting every 3rd Wednesday of the month. The meeting will be held at the Mondo Anaya Community center, 1487 N. Crane Street from 6:15 to 7:30pm. Adults and children are all invited. We provide the main course – you bring a side dish to share. For more information call the Seed of Hope office at 520-836-6335.

Thursdays

FUN VAN – at New Life Pregnancy Center, 1101 E. Trinity Place, Casa Grande. Every Thursday from 12:30 to 2:30pm the Fun Van visits! This is free to all mothers with children from birth to 5 years old and pregnant women. Each class includes: craft, play time, parent session, story time, books to keep, snack and more! Free ESL classes – First Baptist Church, 13955 S. Sunland Gin Road, Arizona City, is offering free English as a second language classes, including reading, conversation, writing and pronunciation, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. every Thursday. For more information, contact Gary Oaks at 520-300-0031.

A women’s and breast cancer support group meets from 5:30 to 6:30pm the third Thursday  of the month at the Cancer Support Center, 1890 E. Florence Blvd., Suite 3. For additional information call Karen at 520-426-7641.

Fridays

Concert In the Park – Every third Friday night (September-November and January-March) from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The concerts are held at Peart Park, located at 350 E. 6th Street. All concerts are free to attend and patrons are encouraged to being chairs and blankets to the park. For more information please call 520-421-8677, Ext. 4523.

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ centered program that helps individuals who struggle with any type of hurt, habit or hang-up. They meet every Friday at 6:00pm at the Casa Grande Assembly of God Church, 501 E. Kortsen Road. The goal of Celebrate Recovery  is to encourage each other as we remove the barriers that keep us from growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Whether it is anger, addictions, depression, anxiety etc.… Celebrate Recovery can be a place to grow using the 12 step model and the actual Words of God. Coolidge – Spirit of Joy United Methodist Church sponsors a swap meet at North Attaway Road and State Route 287 every third Saturday of each month. Spaces for vendors are available. Call 520-217-9288 or 520-723-3296 for more information and an application.

Valley Humane Society has pet adoptions every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm at PetSmart, 986 N. Mission Parkway.

Overeaters Anonymous meets at 8am Saturdays in Room 4 of Building D of First Presbyterian Church, 702 E. Cottonwood Lane. Call Carolyn 705-7038 for more info.

Blood pressure and blood sugar checks are given at Seeds of Hope’s Mondo Anaya Community Center, 1487 N. Crane St., inside Albert Cruz Park, from 8:30am to 10:30am the second Saturday of each month. For more info call Seeds of Hope at 836-6335 Monday through Friday from 8am to noon.

The Casa Grande chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) meets the second Saturday of the month at 7:30am at Golden Corral. This non-denominational ministry joins Christian motorcycle enthusiasts to encourage one another’s faith, represent Christ to secular riders, participate in toy runs and raise funds to support international ministries such as The Jesus Film Project. The Florence Artisan market is open every Saturday from 7:30am to 1pm and is  located on Main Street in downtown Old Florence.

Herbalicious of Arizona will offer fresh produce every fourth Saturday (except in December) in partnership with Borderland Food Banks. The program offers 60 pounds of fresh produce for a $10 donation. POWWOW distribution will be on every fourth Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. at 423 North Florence Street. January 11th

Blood Drive at Calvary ChapelCasa Grande – Appointments are available from 8:00 am until noon. You can call the church at 520-836-9676 to make an appointment or visit bloodhero.com. The church is located at 962 W. Gila Bend Highway.

January 13th

The 9th Annual Casa Grande Life Walk & Diaper Drive takes place this morning from 10:30 am until noon. Local churches will walk silently for 2 miles in remembrance of lives lost to abortion. We will walk from Peart Park to St. Anthony of Padua Church and all are invited to join us! Diapers will be collected to benefit the local crisis pregnancy center. January 14th

Trinity Lutheran Church – Special Speaker from Voice of the Martyrs: Robert Brock will discuss the state of the persecuted church around the world. Through video, photos and firsthand accounts, his presentation will inform and challenge you. Lean how V.O.M. brings both physical and spiritual assistance to the suffering church. Be inspired by the stories of the faith and courage of your fellow believers in Christ. Trinity Lutheran is located at 1428 N. Pueblo Drive, Casa Grande. The event is from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

Living Waters Church of God – will feature a traveling gospel music group today at 10:30am today. Stephen & Marie Forester will sing and play multiple instruments. There will be puppets and ventriloquism. The church is located at 211 E. Date Ave., Casa Grande.

January 19th

The City of Casa Grande Community Services Department is excited to kick off 2018 with a new lineup of music for the Concert in Park series. The concerts are held at Peart Park from 6:00 to 8:00pm every third Friday. Tonight will be “Rhythym Edition”, playing a wide variety of musical styles from Oldies to R&B, Motown, Top 40 and Hip Hop. All concerts are free to attend and patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the park.

January 21st 

The Watoto Children’s Choir, a group of 18 orphans from Uganda, will perform this evening in Maricopa. The concert will be held at the Performing Arts Center at Maricopa High School at 7:00pm. The evening will feature songs that share the joy the children have because of God’s love. They will also share stories of how their lives have been changed and how they have been called into a life of purpose to transform their communities.

Join us at Living Waters Church of God this morning at 10:30am and evening at 6:00pm for entertaining music and worship by The Johnson Family Ministries. The church is located at 211 E. Date Ave., Casa Grande.

February 3rd

The Emergency Assistance Ministry is sponsoring a United Blood Services blood drive today. Appointments are available from 8:00am until 1:30pm at St. Anthony of Padua Community Center at 150 N. Drylake Street. Go to bloodhero.com to make an appointment.

The City of Casa Grande Animal Care and Adoption Center is pleased to again offer a low cost pet vaccination and license clinic for residents. The clinic will be held from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Leash on Life Dog Park, located adjacent to the Paul Mason Sports Complex at 2525 N. Pinal Ave. Dogs and cats who reside in the city limits must have current rabies vaccinations and be licensed if they are over three months old. This clinic is a convenient, affordable way to comply with the law and keep pets healthy and safe. Discouns are available for senior citizens. Pet owners are required to present proof of vaccination, spray/neuter status, and verification of 62+ years if applicable. February 16th

Concert in Park – The concerts are held at Peart Park from 6:00 to 8:00pm every third Friday. To coincide with the Cowboy Days and O’Odham Tash events, the band “Silver Sage” will headline  tonight’s concert featuring traditional country classics along with your favorite classic rock hits. All concerts are free to attend and patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the park.

March

March 16th

Concert in the Park – This is the last concert for the season. The concert will be held at Peart Park from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The season will wrap up tonight with “That Kool Band” playing tribute to an all-time favorite, Neil Diamond. All concerts are free to attend and patrons are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the park.
